The Simple Living Movement

The most environmentally friendly product is the one you didn't buy.

Joshua Becker

Imagine if there was something that each of us could do to help the environment, nature, and climate change. No specialized training or formal education needed.

Guess what? There is! It is easy to do and can also save you a lot of money.

Live a more simple life.

That's it.

Not complicated at all.

"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed."

Mahatma Gandhi

There is a strong and clear connection between living simply and a healthier world.

Conversely, it has become more than evident that excessive consumerism has had

a negative effect on the environment and climate change for many years.

One example is that it is believed that

the fashion industry is now the second

largest polluter in the world,

just after the oil and gas industries.

However, I do not want to go in a direction

of judgment nor shaming. A large majority of

us are guilty of consuming and buying more than we need and simply not realizing

the link between excessive consumerism

and the harm it has done to the environment.

The wonderful news is that more and more

are becoming aware and making the decision

to consume less.

How? By living a more simple life.

There is a growing movement of living simply and many are coming on board to help

the environment.

"How does natural resource consumption cause harm?

Almost everything we do involves materials that have been extracted, processed, transformed, bought and sold, taxed and subsidized, and often shifted across

vast distances.

Our economy is built around these raw materials (natural resources) like trees, gas, oil, metal ores, water and fertile land. Just look at your smartphone. It likely contains cobalt from Africa, copper from Chile and aluminum from Australia.

Over the years, our appetite for raw materials has grown. From 1970 to 2010, our natural resource consumption more than tripled. Overconsumption worsens climate breakdown and increases air pollution. It exhausts the planet's life support systems like the ones that provide us with fresh water, and leaves us short of materials critical to our health and quality of life."

Living a more simple life not only helps the environment
but it also definitely has other benefits
...

reduced stress, more money, less debt, discovering your worth is not in your possessions, less clutter, less mental clutter

Another benefit?

With consuming less comes more emphasis

on enjoying life through experiences rather

than through buying stuff ...

they will thank you)

learn something new

each day

about something that fascinates you
