Welcome to Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat, located northeast of Boulder, Colorado. Making the world a better place!

A wonderful transformation

Walden Ponds is a Boulder County park and was previously a gravel mining operation. Boulder County purchased this land to mine gravel for road construction in 1958. After gravel was taken out, ponds formed from the gravel pits, filling with water from precipitation and groundwater. The land was reclaimed for wildlife habitat by the 1970's. Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat officially opened in 1975.

It is now a wetland habitat, known for its abundant wildlife, waterfowl, and fish. It is a very pretty and serene place to walk and enjoy the views of the nearby foothills. There are 2.9 miles of trails to enjoy, along with the peaceful ponds. If you keep close watch, you may get to see turtles and frogs. I am always over the moon when I spot any kind of wildlife!

When you need a beautiful spot of nature in which to un-wind and de-stress, this is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy listening to birdsong and the breeze blowing through the abundance of trees.

It is simply wonderful when something that was once industrial is transformed into a place of beauty and serenity! A blessing indeed!

Cheers to those who are making the world

a wonderful place to live!
